UPCOMING HEAT WAVE CALLS FOR CONSERVING WATER SUPPLY
Riverhead, NY – Riverhead Town Supervisor urges residents and business owners to conserve water while Riverhead Water District implements water restrictions.
Given the current series of hot - dry days and the upcoming predicted heat wave, the Riverhead Water District is implementing an odd/even day lawn watering schedule. “We are asking customers to reduce outdoor water usage to ensure our ability to meet demand,” said Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter, “Water use doubles during hot spells, sometimes overtaxing our production capability.”
Effective immediately, the Riverhead Water District is implementing an odd/even water schedule for business and residential properties. This means if your address ends in an even number, you can water on even-numbered calendar days. If your address ends in an odd number, you can water on odd numbered calendar days. For example, if your address is 1400, you can water on the 2nd, 4th, 6th of the month and so on. If your address is 1401, you can water of the 1st, 3rd, 5th etc.
Customers of the water district are also urged to refrain from watering their lawns between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Watering early in the day or later at night conserves water.
“I would like to thank the Riverhead Water District customers in advance for their cooperation and understanding of the need to alleviate our water demands by restricting non-essential water use,” Supervisor Walter concluded.
