The Long Island Home Builders Care Development Corp. (LIHBCDC), a subsidiary of the Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI), is building homes for returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. These homes will be sold to veterans and their families at substantially below market prices through donations and the generosity of their members. The homes will be designed to meet any specific needs of the veterans. All qualified veterans can apply.
To qualify for the “Building New Homes for Returning Veterans” program, veterans must have served in Iraq or Afghanistan (or deployed overseas since 2001) and submit a letter that includes their military service history, present living status, employment status and how this may impact their life. Veterans must also be able to procure a mortgage and qualify as a “first-time homebuyer.”
Although a six lot subdivision in Islandia, NY named “Veterans Way” is currently under way, the LIHBCDC will continue to accept applications.
Two homes have already been built by LIHBCDC in Sound Beach and Ronkonkoma and plans to construct additional homes in Centereach and in the town of Islip.
