Town Cancels Meetings Due to Impending Snow
January 2, 2014
Riverhead, NY – Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean M. Walter has announced that all town meetings scheduled for this evening have been cancelled as of 4:30 p.m. due to the impending snow storm.
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning making travel extremely dangerous. The warning is in place from 6 p.m. this evening to 1 p.m. Friday.
Supervisor Walter said, “As this blizzard makes its way across Long Island expecting to hit our Town this evening into the morning hours, I want our residents to know that our Highway Department and Office of Emergency Management have made the necessary preparations to keep our streets open and safe.”
The Supervisor urges all residents to refrain from driving during the storm and reminds them to park off the street to allow crews to remove snow and ice in an efficient manner.
“While we are hoping that we will not have major power outages stemming from this storm, I suggest that our residents take necessary precautionary actions and to check on their supply of batteries, flashlights etc. My priority is to keep our residents and their family safe,” he added. “As always, I am thankful for the brave men and women who stand ready to respond when our residents are in harm’s way.”
