Stotzky Park Walking Path

The Town of Riverhead Recreation Department is proud to announce a new partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension in the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play initiative.

On Thursday, October 23rd Thursday, November 6th at 4pm, Riverhead Recreation and Cornell Cooperative Extension will unveil their first project at Stotzky Park. The one mile walking path is equipped with a map, mile-marker signs, and new light bollards. The Recreation Department will follow up with programming specific to the path in accordance with their fitness initiative.

Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County is a community project that is a part of a state wide initiative funded to the Family Health and Wellness Program area of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County by the New York State Department of Health. Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play contractors across the state are working to prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes by making it easier to access healthier food choices and increase physical activity. In Suffolk County they are creating policy, systems and environmental changes in collaborating towns of our target communities where physical activity and healthy food is not commonplace or easy to access.

On behalf of the Town of Riverhead Recreation Department, I would like to thank Susan Wilk: Project Coordinator, Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County. Our partnership with Susan and Cornell will lead to many new initiatives in fighting the obesity epidemic.

The ribbon cutting will be at 4pm at the entrance of the path (in between field #3 and #4)
