RIVERHEAD,NY – AARP New York and the Town of Riverhead are hosting a series of free events in May and June to help Riverhead residents create a financial road map for retirement. Three seminars, taking place at Riverhead Town Hall, located at 200 Howell Ave, will guide people age 50 and over on how to manage their money for a secure financial future.
The sessions will tackle some of the most pressing concerns of people at or near retirement, including how to stretch their hard-earned retirement savings, how to preserve their legacy and pass money on to their children, and how to navigate the pillars of retirement security: Social Security and Medicare.
With increasing life expectancies meaning people are living into there eighties and beyond, a top concern for many retirees is how to spend smarter and save more to avoid outliving their savings. And, with Social Security and Medicare the foundations of retirement security, knowing how to navigate the programs is need-to-know information for the 50+ set.
“Whether you are in the early stages of planning your retirement or already retired, there are always financial decisions to make that affect you and your family or loved ones. This three-part educational series on planning your future will provide valuable information to help guide you in the process,” said Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter. “I encourage Riverhead residents age 50 and over to attend these free seminars.”
“Boomer parents are expected to leave a whopping $30 trillion to their children over the next 30-40 years, yet many people neglect to plan properly to pass on their money because they find estate planning intimidating or they don’t understand its importance,” said Will Stoner, AARP State Director for Community Outreach on Long Island. “These seminars will give Riverhead residents unbiased information on how to take charge of their finances for a secure retirement.”
