Supervisor Walter Announces Riverhead Town’s S.T.O.P. Day and ‘Drive-Through Drug Take-Back’ To Take Place This Weekend, Saturday, May 16

Riverhead, NY – Riverhead Town Supervisor, Sean M. Walter, has announced that residents can safely dispose of their household hazardous waste on “S.T.O.P (Stop Throwing Our Pollutants) Day” this Saturday, May 16 from 8:00am to 3:00pm at the Town’s Highway yard.  The facility is located at 1177 Osborn Avenue (just north of the Riverhead Ambulance garage).

Residents can also dispose of their electronic waste (e-waste) on this day.  Televisions, cameras, computers and cell phones are common examples of e-waste.

“Disposing of household chemicals in your trash is dangerous,” stated Supervisor Sean M. Walter.  “I encourage all Riverhead Town Residents to get a jump on their spring cleaning and to properly dispose of those paint cans, pesticides and household cleaners that are cluttering up your garage and closets,” he concluded.

Also, on Saturday, May 16, the Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth in partnership with Riverhead Police Department will be holding a Drive-Through Drug Take-Back event from 10 AM to 2 PM. Residents can come to the Riverhead Police Department at 210 Howell Avenue and drop off any unused, unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter drugs without having to get out of their cars. The coalition will also provide giveaways for residents who take advantage of this event and help keep these medications out of the hands of teens, addicts and criminals, as well as our water supply.

Please see the attached flyer to obtain more information on acceptable materials to bring to S.T.O.P Day or feel free to call the Sanitation Department at 631-727-3200 ext. 391 with any questions you may have.
