Lottery held for Riverhead’s New Downtown Apartments

The lottery to select the first potential tenants of Riverhead’s new Peconic Crossing was held in Town Hall today.

The first names pulled were of artists and displaced victims of Superstorm Sandy, which were given preference in the lottery. All applicants will need to meet income requirements as part of the final approval process.

The art-friendly, mixed-income, 11 West Main Street complex offers 45 energy-efficient one and two bedroom apartments in the heart of Downtown. And to further serve the artist residents, the building will include gallery space to showcase their work.

Recognizing the role of art in creating and supporting a vibrant downtown, Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith sees Peconic Crossing as a great addition, saying “This is a win/win for Riverhead and our new artist residents. Our Main Street district will reap the benefits from an expanded artistic community. And our new neighbors will enjoy the inspiration of living alongside the Peconic River, Grangebel Park and the convenience of being steps away from our downtown shops, restaurants and East End Arts.”

Peconic Crossing is a joint venture between Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDCLI) and Conifer Realty, LLC.
