Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith honored six Glenwood Village couples celebrating emerald, diamond and sapphire wedding anniversaries this year.
Last Thursday night, six couples were honored for the rare accomplishment of celebrate 55, 60 and especially 65 years of marriage. The couples brought along their wedding photos and were given boutonnieres and bridal bouquets by their Glenwood neighbors. During the celebration, which of course included anniversary cake, Riverhead Town Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith presented each with a proclamation stating in part that they are “an inspiration to all married couples.”
Glenwood Village Board President Lori Slanina says the Board recognizes anniversaries annually at open meetings, but “to have six couples in our community celebrating such significant anniversaries this year is very unusual and all the more worth celebrating!”
Enjoying the honors, Diane and Bob Zeluff who married 55 years ago; Cathrine and Fred Eyster as well as Marie and Frank Martorano both celebrating 60 years of marriage; and three couples, Delores and Buddy McInerney, Joan and Irv Hitzler and Barbara and Thomas Kluko who are all celebrating their 65th anniversaries.
