Supervisor Jens-Smith to Hold Seasonal Clean-Up of Riverhead Train Station
WHAT: Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith is holding her seasonal Train Station Clean-Up as part of her on going revitalization efforts for the area.
WHEN: June 1, 2019 at 8:30 AM
WHERE: Riverhead Train Station
This continued effort is thanks to the generous contributions of the MTA, Home Depot, civic associations, and neighbors who have joined forces to improve their Town.
The overhaul began last year when Supervisor Jens-Smith first met with MTA officials to discuss the needs of the blighted station. Among the concerns and requested upgrades were the installation of multiple security cameras; replacing frosted glass panels that block view of train tracks; relocating trees that block oncoming street traffic and bricking areas to make it safer and more handicapped accessible.
Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith says, “As we are set to start our third cleanup it’s been amazing to see residents come together to improve their community. Improving the train station is a key part to revitalizing our downtown. As new neighbors start to call this area their home making sure that transit is accessible, safe, and easy will become a big part of improving the quality of life for residents. I want to thank all those who have volunteered in the past, and invite anyone interested to take an active role in improving Riverhead.”
