Keeping a promise made during her 2019 State of the Town Address Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith announces today that $250,000 is being invested in upgrades to Riverhead’s parks throughout the Town. With summer here and Town Parks in substantial need of attention, the Town Board Tuesday adopted the Supervisor’s proposal for improvements to parks all across Riverhead.

Supervisor Jens-Smith says, “Through careful, conservative budget practices, I am happy to say Riverhead is investing in its parks for the first time in many years. The benefit from these upgrades will be an improved quality of life for our residents, and the ability to continue enjoying Riverhead’s parks.”

Projects that were funded Tuesday by the Town Board include:

  • Police Officers Memorial Park (formerly Bayberry Park) Tennis Court
  • Reeve’s Beach Restroom Facilities
  • Stotzky Park Handball Court
  • Edwards Ave Parking Lot
  • Upgraded Playground Equipment

“In working with our Engineering and Recreation Departments we were able to identify which parks were in the most need as we approached the summer season. I was happy to see the Town Board follow my lead on this issue.” Supervisor Jens-Smith said.

Ribbon cuttings will be scheduled for the upgrades as they are completed.
