The Town of Riverhead employs personnel in accordance with Suffolk County Department of Civil Service rules and regulations. This means that most positions have minimum qualifications that job applicants must meet in order to be considered for employment.
It is important that you fill out your job application to show that you meet these minimum qualifications. Additionally, applicants for positions in an administrative or technical capacity generally must take a civil service exam, scoring high enough on the test to be included in one of the top three test scores. This is known as the "Rule of Three".
If you are seeking employment with the Town of Riverhead, it is recommended that you acquaint yourself with civil service regulations regarding competitive examinations and other civil service hiring regulations. Since each position in the Town has a specific civil service
title, it is important to take any and all civil service tests for titles that fall within the range of the job opportunity you are seeking and for which the Department of Civil Service deems you qualified for, based on their minimum qualifications of those titles.
